In a survey conducted by Ynet and Gesher Society in honor of Israel’s 60th Independence Day,Abraham Isaac Kook was chosen to be the largest contributor to the shaping and building of the State of Israel.

The Zionist-religious leader was awarded first place in the survey, which asked thousands to rank Jewish leaders according to their contribution to the State.

This is truly amazing especially since Ynet is not a Religious Zionist organization. It truly is a great recognition of the incredible work Rav Kook has done in shaping modern Jewish Thought in a meaningful and relevant way.

    That’s incredible. I wonder how a secular Israeli would relate to him, his thoughts, and his influence on the State?
    Also, for work in bringing Jews closer to Torah, this is, of course, a very powerful tool…

    I think many secular zionist Israelis relate to him as “the rabbi that was on our side”. I’m talking about those who really lived Zionism.

    Those who are knowledgeable in Torah realize also the incredible intellectual genius that he was!

    Finally, everyone has to recognize the hundreds of yeshivot based on his teachings. We, his students, don’t put pictures of his on every street corner because we relate to our Rabbis in a different way, but his influence is undeniable.
