And the Winner Is….
Dan Illouz

The winner of this week’s Question of the Week is Tamar Cohen!

We had asked:
Korach’s claim does not seem so crazy. He basically argued: “All the people in the community are holy, and G-d is with them. Why are you setting yourselves above G-d’s congregation?” (Bamidbar 16:3) Why do we need a hierarchy of Jewish Leadership? We are all created in God’s image! If so, what was Korach’s mistake? How are we to relate to his message of complete equality within the Jewish community?

Tamar Cohen’s answer was drawn out of a “Hat” from all the answers by a computer program named “The Hat”. She will now receive, by email, a 20$ gift certificate for FREE Kosher Chocolate!

The next question and prize will be announced on Sunday!

That's how you pick winners? Someone could spend hours researching, another person might just write "I like chocolate. Mmmm.. chocolate" and still win?

  2. Dan Says:

Nope, as long as its a thought out answer, they get in the hat. The questions I ask don't have right and wrong answers. The goal is to get a productive discussion going. I am in no way qualified to decide who gives a better answer since there is no right or wrong answer… So, as long as the answer is thought out (and it's very easy to tell when an answer is thought out or not), then they get in the hat. Also, the prize is really a way to encourage discussion - it shouldn't be the main reason to have this discussion based on Torah. Your research, being limmud torah, should be good enough of a prize. If you get a prize, just makes it even better. Sorry, I understand that for those who want to participate just to get the prize, it would be annoying, but I am hoping that people participate for the value of discussing torah, and that the prize is a nice extra.

Oh, just one more small thing… This method of selection was announced already, so I am not sure why you are so surprised. I hope you still participate next week!
