He has a point about the incongruence of living outside of Israel and claiming to be a Zionist, but on the other hand, where would Israel be without those “Zionists”?

I don’t disagree with the fact that we owe a lot of gratitude for the support of American Jews towards Israel, however, this is hardly a reason for a “zionist” not to live in Israel since, after all, we are not currently at a point where we can say “we do not have enough Jews in Chutz Laaretz supporting us”, rather quite the opposite. If we ever come to that point (which I doubt it will ever be a real issue), then it will be worth discussing.
Also, I think his whole point was that while you cannot be a Zionist, you can be a “Doresh Tzion” from Chutz Laaretz. I think he would put all those giving those big donations in that category… you might say its an argument on semantics, but I think its deeper and more powerful since it does show recognition for the fact that it is harder to go to the army, live in the “matzav” in Israel, etc.. than simply write a check or attend rallies, even if the latter also definitely helps.
