The exodus from Egypt will eternally remain the springtime of the entire world. — Rav Avraham Itzhak Hakohen Kook

Archive: Political Commentary

The current election in the United States of America, coupled by so many discussion I’ve had with friends where, after scratching the surface of my political opinions, expressed amazement at how much they agreed with parts of my outlook when they first thought I was on the polar opposite of their position, encouraged me to write a piece in which I want to express and detail my approach to most political questions.

I’m warning you, in the current political climate, there is a good chance you will hate this piece. The reason is simple: my approach does not fit in any box. As such, liberals will call me a fascist while conservatives will call me a socialist liberal. I do believe, however, that the great majority of people in the world will relate to my approach and see it as a breath of fresh air, EVEN those who disagree with most/all my conclusions. Feel free to disagree with me! This is only food for thought. As always, your comments would be appreciated.

I wasn’t either.  Until I read a post here from Rabbi Lazer Brody.  Isn’t it funny how the media chose not inform the us about this?

On August 21st, 2008, the MV Iran Deyanat (photo, left), an Iranian civilian merchant ship carrying 44,458 dead weight was heading towards the Suez Canal. As it was passing the Horn of Africa, about 80 miles southeast of al-Makalla in Yemen, the ship was surrounded by speedboats filled with members of a gang of Somalian pirates who grab suitable commercial ships and hold them and their cargos and crews for ransom. The captain was defenseless against the 40 pirates armed with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades blocking his passage. He had little choice other than to turn his ship over to them. What the pirates were not banking on, however, was that this was no ordinary ship.

Within a period of three days, those pirates who had boarded the ship and opened the cargo container with its gritty sand-like contents, all developed strange health complications, to include serious skin burns and loss of hair. And within two weeks, sixteen of the pirates subsequently died, either on the ship or on shore.

At this writing, the MV Iran Deyanat is at anchor, watched closely by American, French and Russian naval units.

Although American intelligence and government sources are maintaining a strictly observed silence, the same does not apply to the Russians and so it is that we learn the real story of the MV Iran Deyanat. She was an enormous floating dirty bomb, intended to detonate after exiting the Suez Canal at the eastern end of the Mediterranean and in proximity to the coastal cities of Israel. The entire cargo of radioactive sand, obtained by Iran from China (the latter buys desperately needed oil from the former) and sealed in containers which, when the charges on the ship are set off after the crew took to the boats, will be blasted high into the air where prevailing winds will push the highly dangerous and radioactive cloud ashore.

Given the large number of deaths from the questing Somali pirates, it should be obvious that when the contents of the ship’s locked cargo containers finally descended onto the land, the death toll would be enormous. This ship was nothing more nor less than the long-anticipated Iranian attack on Israel. Not the expected rocket attacks (which could be intercepted by the Israelis) but an even more deadly and unexpected attack by sea. It is very interesting to note that the Israeli government has in the past few weeks, been loudly demanding that the United States establish a naval blockade of Iran.

The reason for this blockade would be to prevent any more Iranian ships with deadly cargos from attacking either Israel or other targets from the sea. “

I just wanted to pass this on for more to see Hashem’s amazing intervention and protection over our Land.

The Change Israel Needs
Dan Illouz

“We know the battle ahead will be long. But always remember that, no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.” Barack Obama

“He (Barack Obama) is an impressive man, who makes a great first impression. But he hasn’t been willing to make the tough calls; to challenge his party; to risk criticism from his supporters to bring real change to Washington. I have.” John Mccain

Change is what it is all about in the United States election this year. And why would it not be? The economy is going through its worse crisis since the Great Depression, the president’s approval rating is low. People want change.

While people in America want change, I believe people in Israel need change.

Saddened but not Terrorised
Dan Illouz

This post is a little blunt. However, as Rav Kook said in Orot, acts of war often bring a lot of clarity. With clarity, you realize that being politically correct is often less important than just saying the truth.

We all know what the goals of terrorists are: to break our spirit, terrorise us, make us stop fighting for our cause.

Unfortunately for them, their tactics will not work!

Yes, every terrorist attack is painful. Yes, every terrorist attack makes me depressed. Yes, every terrorist attack annoys me. I can’t imagine what they do to the families of the victims.

However, “the eternal nation is not afraid of the long road”. We will not stop moving forward towards our ultimate goal. You can try and throw everything you’ve got at us, but we’ll keep moving forward.

We will, ultimately, succeed in building a holy nation on the holy land, a model of a moral society which will continue to bring good to the whole entire world.

Nothing you can do will stop us. Anything you try will only make us more determined, it will only make us stronger.

May God send a speedy recovery to all the victims of today’s terrorist attack

I’m coming out of hiding and admitting that I have been watching the show “Srugim”. While I’m not necessarily comfortable with everything shown on that show, I do believe it brings up a number of powerful serious issues in the religious community in Israel. One scene in this week’s episode was especially powerful:

If you do not see a video here, you need to click here to see the full post.

For those who do not understand Hebrew, the younger character is speaking to her aunt about her feelings after the expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif. After praying intensely for months, with an intensity which has not been equaled in decades, the Jews of Gush Katif were still expulsed from their homes and a lot of people started asking questions: “Why did God not answer our prayers?”. The younger character, one of the youth from Gush Katif, in this show lost her faith because of this and could not connect to God anymore. She started rebelling against everything God represented. In the real world, the rebellions which some of the youth from Gush Katif went through was even more dramatic - the community was completely devastated.

In order to enhance your understanding of the problem, and understand the painful position taken from some of these youth, take a look at this video which shows us a glimpse of the intensity in which the prayers were conducted in. Take a moment to watch this video before reading on:

So, how do we deal with such a disappointment. How could we have prayed for so long and with so much power and not receive any answer?
